Happy Holi

In India, there are sundry festivals that people celebrate throughout a year. We, do enjoy all the festivals with equal level of emotions, banishing religious and cultural differences. We greet and meet each other on Eid, Christmas, Diwali and all the other festivals, with the same level of warmth and love. One such festival is Holi, the festival of devotion, prayers, colors, and fun.

For few, it’s merely a holiday, but for many, it’s a day when they can be a child again. Everyone enjoys this day with their friends, family, relatives, colleagues and fellow students, forgetting all sorts of barriers. For parents, it’s a challenging day, not only to ensure their kids play safe but also to get their kids back home and make them as clean as possible. For some, the festival dissolves not just colors in waters, it also dissolves prevailing animosities.

Kids prepare for Holi at least 3-4 days in advance. New pichkaris along with packs of balloons and colors are bought and kept ready days before. Children show each other their new pichkaris and start comparing and convincing others that their pichkari is a better one.

I remember, a night before, we used to keep a separate tub filled with water to fill up pichkaris. Also, another tub is kept for balloons filled with water. But before filling balloons with the water, we used to add color into it. There were competitions among all the children in the neighborhood, for a greater number of balloons.
As we grew up, the level of Holi increased. Where simple colors or gulaals were replaced by oil paints and artificial colors. Also, there were friends who would just turn up after half of the day was over, and all the cleaning part was done. I am sure their acts of showing up late were deliberate. I remember once a friend of mine was thrown into a pool of mud. Those were the days and that was the friendship, where such things never hurt anyone’s sentiments. Nowadays, people get hurt even if someone does not hit a like button or fails to respond over social media.
In schools, a day before Holi, me and my friends used to bring some colors in the school, hiding them inside the bags. We used to wait eagerly for the last class to get over. Post-school, we used to visit a nearby park and play with colors and use water from the drinking water bottle. But before that, we had to change, as our uniform shirt’s color was white.

There is one particular song that gets played every Holi, on various TV and Radio channels without a miss. Even after so many years, “Holi aayi re” song from 1984’s Mashaal movie is refreshing and very much enjoyable. It is my most favorite holi song. And I am sure, for many, it would be “Rang Barse” from 1981’s Silsila.
A handful of people try to take advantage under the hood of Holi celebrations and stretch their limits while playing with girls and ladies, and I really feel such things need to be stopped and such people need to be more responsible for their behavior. Also, the people around should be watchful and interfere if required to avoid such incidents.

Embrace this Holi with the color of love, the water of care, balloons of warmth, and allow the happiness to follow.

Let’s be a child again.

My 3 years old daughter is ready with her water bag with attached pichkari. Are you?

India Strikes

The PM of Pakistan is flamboyant. He speaks good English and talks about peace. He released our pilot as a peace gesture.
He lives in a country where a prime minister could be put behind bars but proofs against terrorists couldn't be used to punish them.
He talks about peace, but his soldiers violates cease fires.
He acts as if he does not know anything about rampant terror groups and camps within his country.
India demolished a terrorist group's biggest training camp, in an unprecedented non-military strike, in which the fighter plane Mirage 2000 was launched not from a forward base, but from the center of the country, Gwalior.
After surgical strike, the non-military strike gave a stronger message to the opponents. There is also shift in paradigm across the globe, where instead of raising fingers at us for making such strikes, which involved crossing the border, not just LOC, they are asking the opponents not to act and escalate the issue. It shows, they know, now we can go for a bigger strike if the neighbour does something silly.
It appears, we could successfully convince everyone that we have rights to retaliate and opponents cannot take us lightly anymore. This is something we sadly missed after 26/11.
The pressure built on the neighbour is so much, that they had to return the captured pilot sooner, thought they could have returned him after a week. At least three countries were directly involved to make this happen. And at least two of these countries were not friends to us, traditionally.
May be this is not a "new India", but I like "this" India.
A big salute to Mirage 2000 pilots, army men who carried out surgical strike, all the defense personnel, the NSA and the establishment for keeping us safe and implanting fresh seeds of hope and assurance among 1.3 billion people. No words are sufficient for what they did for us.
A big salute and a very warm welcome to the Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who fought bravely and risked his life for us, for the motherland.
Jai Hind!!!
P.S. "I am not supposed to tell you this."

For my mom

Date - Midnight between 7th and 8th March 2019

Place - Vile Parle, Mumbai

Reading Time - 1 minute read

While she is into her deep sleep, resting after week long hardship due to the injured back, I am staring outside a window of my admitted mother’s room number 504 of a hospital located at Vile Parle, Mumbai.

Mumbai and especially Ville Parle is a place where you will find peace among chaos and friends
among strangers. It has as many auto rickshaws as dense trees, and it has as many cars as shops.

The famous neighbors - Mithibai and Narsee Monjee Colleges, Nanavati Hospital, Pawan Hans
helicopter services, the Sanyas Ashrams temple, these are just a few of a big list of popular  places here. The famous and recently closed Parle-G factory is also located in this suburb. Its Alpha market is a dream place for shopping freak people, where people can get range of items from mobiles to electronics, from footwear to toiletries.

As I am looking outside the window, I see the night has slowed down pace of the vehicles and
flow of the traffic just like the injury slowed down the pace of my mother's life. However, view of the empty road lit up with street lights is mesmerizing. Mumbai looks more beautiful in the nights as if it carries some make up post evenings.

As I stare at the silent but peaceful streets, it implants seeds of hope that the morning will bring a fresh rays of energy and awaited wave of strength. There shall be smiles, there shall be laughter.
There shall be joy, there shall be fun. Tunes of belief and lyrics of relief creates a Music for heart to recite and cheer.

Wishing my mom a happy women's day and a lots of wishes for speedy recovery.
